Kimiidera Temple

Description

Kimiidera Temple is the second stop on the Saigoku Kannon Pilgrimage. The name Kimiidera derives from the three wells in the area: the Well of Purity, the Well of Healing and the Well of Good Fortune. Built in the Nara period, this famous temple is known for its Yoshino cherry trees, which are said to bloom the earliest in the Kansai region. The shrine is home to Japan’s largest standing wooden Kannon statue, or Daikannon (big Kannon).
