Description

Among the traditional Japanese handmade washi paper, a craft that has continued for more than 1,000 years, Tosa washi, born in Kochi Prefecture, is characterized by its excellent durability and extremely thin and soft texture. It has a long history of being used for the restoration of important cultural properties because of its beautiful dyeing technique and abundance of colors, thickness, and manufacturing methods. This store offers workshops where participants can wear samue, a traditional Japanese work clothes, and make Tosa washi postcards with hand using traditional tools. After plain washi is handmade, you choose colored paper from a lineup of several hundred varieties and place it on top, and finish it into a unique and colorful postcard. The paper is made by coloring “Rakusui paper,” which is lace-like patterned by using a traditional technique. Each piece of paper has a different color and pattern. While washi looks delicate and beautiful in appearance, it is made from long plant fibers and is said to withstand long-term preservation for more than 1,000 years. How about completing your own washi with your own hands, which is perfect for letters to send a message to your loved ones?
